The Vranov nad Dyjí Castle is at the very beginning of the Vranov Dam. The ruins of Cornštejn Castle and the Bítov Castle are somewhat more distant targets around the Vranov Dam, but if you are adventurous and have lots of energy then it is worthwhile visiting. From Cornštejn and the lookout tower, Rumburak, in front of Bítov, there is a beautiful view of the Bítov Bay of the Vranov Reservoir.

Znaim (70 km entfernt) ist eine wunderschöne historische Stadt an den Ufern des Thaya Flusses und auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert – genauso wie eine Wanderung entlang der gut markierten Wanderwege des Podyjí Nationalparks. Die Möglichkeit, schöne Ausblicke ins Thayatal zu genießen, bietet die Burgruine Novy hrádek (Burg Neuhäusel) in der Nähe von Lukova. Etwas weiter westlich, auf österreichischer Seite, liegt Burg Hardegg. Sie thront majestätisch auf einem Felsen über der kleinsten Stadt Österreichs, der Stadt Hardegg.
Das Schloss Vranov nad Dyjí (Schloss Frein) liegt am Anfang des Vranover Stausees. Die Burgruinen Cornštejn und Bítov sind etwas weiter entfernte Ziele am Vranover Stausee, aber wenn man abenteuerlustig ist und genug Energie hat, sollte man sie auch besichtigen. Der Aussichtsturm Rumburak ist 30 m hoch und somit der höchste Turm Südmährens. Von hier aus kann man die Burgen Bítov und Cornštejn, einen Teil der Frainer Talsperre und, bei schönem Wetter, sogar die Alpen sehen.

Burg Falkenstein (20 km) ist eine frei zugängliche Ruine, welche direkt über dem Dorf gleichen Namens thront. Unter dem derzeitigen Besitzer Georg Thurn-Vrints wurde die Burgruine wieder für Besucher geöffnet. Bei einer Führung (Sonn- und Feiertags um 15 Uhr ab acht Personen) geben die alten Mauern ihr Geheimnis preis.
Die Palava Region beherbergt bis heute die alten Geheimnisse von Mammutjägern und Kelten, sowie die vielen Schicksale gefallener Soldaten der X. römischen Legion, welche, der Legende nach hier mit der Anpflanzung von Weinstöcken angefangen haben sollen.
Der Barfußpfad ist eine ungewöhnliche Touristen Attraktion: der Rundweg von weniger als 5 km führt vom österreichischen Örtchen Schrattenberg ins tschechische Valtice. Auf dem Weg liegt das beeindruckende Gebäude der ‘Reistna Kolonade’.
Im archäologischen Park Pavlov (19 km entfernt) befindet sich die Ausstellung einer 25-30 tausend Jahre alten Siedlung der einstigen Mammutjäger in Pavlov.
